Lionel Bascles

Senior Vice President and Global Head of Clinical Sciences & Operations, Sanofi

Lionel Bascles is the Senior Vice President and Global Head of Clinical Sciences & Operations at Sanofi, where he oversees R&D operations and strategic development. In this role, he collaborates closely with the Clinical Sciences & Operations leadership team to support R&D objectives. Lionel also leads the company’s platform strategy and fosters innovation through AI and digital technology to modernize clinical research.

With over 30 years of experience at Sanofi, Lionel has held various leadership roles within business development, project management and global international clinical trials. Prior to joining Sanofi, he worked in clinical and neuroscientific research at MDS Pharma Services and University Bordeaux II.

Lionel holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as well as a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from University Bordeaux II.
